STEP 3 - CHALLENGE!
Take pictures of how you spent your time outside and challenge your friends on social media!
Here's a fun whale activity you can do outside!
Whales are really big. But can you picture exactly how big whales really are? Let’s find out.

Take the whale lengths below and measure them outside.

Have someone stand on either end and see just how far apart you are!

Bonus: Use sidewalk chalk to draw lines to mark the lengths of different kinds of whales so you can compare and show others!
We want to see the whales in your neighborhood!
Take a picture, use the #50forthe50 and tag @whales_org to join in! Bonus points if you can find a creative way to photograph your blue whale!

Wondering what whales and spending time outdoors have in common? Simple, whales play a vital role in our planet! Whales go to the bathroom at the oceans surface and at the surface is where phytoplankton live. Phytoplankton are little plants that, when fertilized by whale poop, create oxygen! Since oceans make up around 71% of our Earth's surface, phytoplankton creates over half of the oxygen you breath! As you are out measuring whale lengths and getting fresh air, thank a whale for pooping!
