Las Vegas dolphin facility to close

captive dolphin

Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat in Las Vegas is to permanently close.

The facility is part of The Mirage complex and has been open for more than three decades but, following the property's sale to Hard Rock International, the decision has been made to permanently close the garden and habitat.

While it is good to see the closure of yet another captive facility, it is likely that these dolphins will be moved to other facilities.

These intelligent creatures would roam for miles each day in the wild. Confinement causes repetitive behavior, and they live shorter lives than they would in the ocean. It is for these reasons that we are encouraging people not to go to see these shows and we are supporting wild sea sanctuary projects.
