Poland’s environment minister says no to captive dolphins

Poland’s Environment Minister has been raising his concerns about the practise of keeping dolphins in captivity, and has poured cold water on possible plans to build a dolphinarium in Mszczonów.

In a recent blog, Maciej Grabowski stated that there was no agreement to open a commercial dolphinaria in Poland.

He went on to say that dolphins needed the open space of the ocean and, although the idea to build a captive facility in Poland had aroused interest, the best place to see dolphins was in the wild – in their natural environment.

Grabowski also added that he could not agree with keeping dolphins in captive facilities because they live much shorter lives than they would in the wild.
