SeaWorld's woes continue as profits drop

SeaWorld’s latest set of financial results, for the 2nd quarter of the year, have produced another set of disappointing figures with attendances, profits and revenue all down, more than analysts had predicted.

Earnings dropped a staggering 84% compared with a year ago. This came despite a series of discounts, promotions and a revamped marketing campaign aimed at winning back visitors. SeaWorld admitted it faces “brand challenges in California”. The company launched a major marketing campaign earlier this year in an attempt to combat the negative publicity it received following the release of the documentary Blackfish and its continued justification for keeping orcas in captivity.
