Two dolphins on WDC’s sculpture trail are attacked

Two of the Wild Dolphin sculptures that have taken over the streets of Aberdeen in Scotland have been removed for repairs after being vandalised.

‘Archie’ and ‘Tree’s a Crowd’ were both forced from their plinths overnight and found abandoned nearby.

The Wild Dolphins project has seen 50 life-sized fibreglass sculptures of bottlenose dolphins – usually spotted off the North-east coast – popping up all over town.

Locations include the beach, harbour, parks, city centre, shopping centres and golf courses as well as Torry Battery, a known hotspot for watching real dolphins.

Stine Bang, events fundraising manager at WDC, said: “Unfortunately both dolphins have had to be removed so we can repair them but we hope they will be back on display very soon so everyone can enjoy them again. We have had such an amazing response to the dolphins and this is so disappointing as families and visitors have been having a fantastic time spotting them all over Aberdeen.”

The Wild Dolphins trail has been organised by Wild in Art with The ARCHIE Foundation and WDC. The finished dolphin designs include a pirate, a diver and Spiderman, and dolphins made of mosaics, wool and willow. All the dolphins can be seen until August 29, before being auctioned to raise money for the two charities.
