My hat is off to SeaLife!

Emily Moss, WDC’s ACT RIGHT NOW Campaign Officer, comments on her recent trip to SeaLife and their work with WDC.

Going to the aquarium is an inspiring experience.  You get to see creatures you might never otherwise even know existed.  Good aquariums are successful in taking that inspiration a step further and making sure every visitor leaves with knowledge they didn’t have when they walked in.  Unfortunately, these experiences often come at a high price to the whales and dolphins held captive in aquariums.

At WDC, we are passionate about keeping whales and dolphins in their natural habitat and have been at the forefront of the anti-captivity movement.  SeaLife aquariums are a shining example of institutions that provide an exciting and interactive experience to their guests without participating in the trade and captivity of whales and dolphins.

SeaLife also does a fantastic job keeping marine conservation at the forefront of their exhibits; SeaLife guests are given the information and the opportunity to get involved to help make our oceans safer places for the animals that call it home.

In this way, we have been very excited to have SeaLife Aquariums join us in the ACT RIGHT NOW campaign efforts.  They have been sharing our campaign message and petition cards with visitors and even made a fantastic video in support of the campaign!

The goal of the Act Right Now campaign is to increase public awareness about the issues that face the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale and to let people know how they can get involved to help.  Having SeaLife on board has helped us (WDC) share this information with thousands of people across the country; that kind of outreach is invaluable.  We have received Act Right Now petition from SeaLife visitors at their locations in Texas, Minnesota, San Diego, Kansas and Arizona- proving you don’t have to live on the coast to care about the health of our oceans or the survival of this species.  Everyone can be a part of making sure the North Atlantic right whale is around for future generations to admire.

Be a part of the action: If you find yourself near a SeaLife aquarium, take your friends and family to check out all they have to offer and sign one of our petition cards!
