Well, one of my childhood heroes has apparently sold out the whales according to the Norwegian whaling industry.
According to fiskeribladetfiskaren, in 2007, Iggy Pop fell for the propoganda of the Norwegian whaling industry and, whilst attending a pop festival (Bay Festival) in Tromsø, in northern Norway, .. was happy to accept that whale meat was freely available. The article is not clear as to whether Mr. Osterberg actually ate the whale burgers, but it seems to wish to imply that he was not opposed to their sale and consumption.
The Norwegian festival organisers seem to have sold the lie that whaling was an ancient Norwegian tradition, but failed to tell Iggy that minke whaling only began in the 1930s.
It seems that the whaling industry is targetting celebrities and the young to save their dying industry. Shame some seem to be willing to fall for it.
Lets hope Iggy, who seems to be selling car insurance these days, is not also selling out the whales.
