Iceland abolishes Ministry of the Environment

In a move that conservationsists are viewing with dismay, the new Icelandic Government have effectively abolished the Ministry of Environment.

The new government is planning on merging the ministry of agriculture and fisheries and the ministry for the environment into one ministry

Critics say that this is the same thing as abolishing the ministry for the environment.

We shall be looking closely at what this means for whaling in Iceland in the coming months.

The new oalition government made up of  the Progressive Party and the Independent Party have also broken off negotiations to join the EU.
