WDC is delighted that the first Scottish harbour porpoise Special Area of Conservation in the Inner Hebrides and the Minches has been designated by Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Roseanna Cunningham.
In 2002 world governments agreed to end all trade in bottlenose dolphins captured from the Black Sea. I remember that day as we celebrated this as a great victory. It was fantastic to know that the years of hard work my colleagues had put in had paid off.
So what lies at the roots of whaling policy in Japan and Iceland?
Is it some sense of national identity? Is it some true altruistic desire to feed their countrymen? Or is it something else?
